Molly Sieburg Courcelle

Molly Sieburg Courcelle
Wedge Studios #
www.mollycourcelle.com

A love of nature is the inspiration that brings rich and subtle colors to Molly Courcelle’s organic abstracts.  Something as simple as a fallen leaf or bit of moss is all it takes to capture her imagination, “I often fill my pockets with found objects from walks in the woods or puttering in the garden, taking these treasures back to the studio for a closer look.  It’s an exhilarating feeling when something as tiny as a fold in a flower begins the process of bringing paints together on canvas.”

Molly’s enthusiasm for the outdoors came early in life when her mother, Asheville artist, Bee Sieburg, gathered the neighborhood children in the garden for painting lessons.  It was a fun-filled experience, discovering the joy of playing with paints and seeing the world with wonder.

I have been holed up in my Warehouse Studios space for eleven years, which some say qualifies me as a River District pioneer.  In any case, I have witnessed an incredible blossoming of the River Arts District. The Studio Stroll used to be quite a casual affair… a handful of artists pulled together a one-day open studio event, publicized only by some xeroxed flyers and a few random posters. We’ve come a long way.

Jenny Mastin

 Jenny-Mastin-Applying-encaustic-wax

I have always had a strong fascination with anthropology and art. My greatest influences have been the primal forms and stories of traditional cultures from around the world. I am not alone. "Primal" art forms have influenced the imaginations and works of artists throughout the centuries. Each form, whether a totem, mask, shield, body art or figurine was a means of connecting... man to man, man to animal, man to spirit, spirit to spirit. They became a bridge creating a sacred communion or dialogue between the physical and spiritual worlds.

The Potter's Mark

Home of the elusive Copper-Red Glaze
(also the studio of Eileen & Marty Black)

Studio When you walk into the Potter’s Mark Gallery, located in the Cotton Mill Studios, you will immediately see a brightly lit gallery ablaze with pottery in many exotic glazes. If you peer behind this gallery, you will observe a pottery studio replete with shelves usually loaded with pottery at various stages of completion. It’s in this studio where Eileen & Marty Black joyfully work creating, mostly, high fired functional stoneware pottery. Less frequently, but with as much enthusiasm, they also produce many decorative items.

Cynthia Lee

CynthiaLee.workingatCurve.2009 The essence of my work springs from a fusion of my passion for the endless beauty of nature and my belief in the strength of the human spirit. Nature is deeply intertwined with our life force, inspiring hope of endurance and offering its healing powers. A plant's ability to burst forth from a slab of concrete, continually changing to adapt and survive the harsh atmosphere of the earth, illustrates the organic resilience of all living things. I am grateful for nature, the strength of the human spirit…and clay.
