I am a contemporary mixed heritage Native American artist. My blend of cultures half Choctaw-half Czech make for an interesting dichotomy in how I express what is in my heart and soul as I navigate through life. Much of my work is a direct response to what is presented emotionally, spiritually and physically in my daily journey.
In the sixties, it was not considered cool to be a bi-racial child. However, it provided life-changing experiences that laid the foundation for me to transcend adversity through education and provided me with an authentic voice as a performer, artist and social advocate for change. Having moved and traveled extensively both in and out-of country I’ve been humbled to be given a life mission that nurtures my humanitarian needs with my passion for the arts. It is a daily balancing act to honor my Native beliefs of treading lightly, respecting nature and accepting all humans. At the same time, my Anglo instincts want to push the prejudices and perceptions of a creative “half breed” kid from the wrong side of the tracks and celebrate my diversity.

My interpretations in both fine art and fine craft are greatly influenced by contemporary design, nature, Native American colors and symbolism. Each sunrise I strive to get out of the way and let the spirit come through to create art that touches the heart and heals while honoring Mother Earth and the universe of possibilities.
My passion and spirit continues to change and evolve as does my work in several mediums including glass, wood, metals, botanicals, mixed media and a return to painting after a 24 year hiatus. My work has been exhibited across the U.S. in solo and group exhibitions, art festivals, galleries, museums, commissioned by private collectors, collected by corporate and non-profit foundations. Contemporary glass in mixed media can be viewed in Asheville exclusively at the Bender Gallery.

The Creator and Mother Earth all have a way of bringing life full circle. On this journey, I’ve become a nationally known public speaker and artist. I share my studio and life with Native artist David Lookingbill and we collaborate on a variety of art creations in fused glass and mixed media. Our contemporary gallery-studio, Desert Moon Designs, is on the right side of the tracks in Asheville’s River Arts District by the healing waters of the French Broad River where our Native ancestors left their footprints as they walked their journey.
