I am very much taken with landscapes. My goal is to convey the essence of a landscape, while eliminating much of it's detail; similar to that first impression, or the large shapes you see when your eyes are half open. I am interested in structure, gesture, color and sequence of color. There is a certain amount of structure, built up in layers, in my paintings. The combination of random grid and loose brushwork creates a blend of masculine and feminine characteristics.
I am influenced greatly by living where I am. Asheville and the surrounding mountain ranges are a constant source of inspiration. I try to get out into the woods by hiking and camping as much as possible, always with camera in hand. I am also influenced by a number of other artists: George Inness, Gustav Klimt, Wolf Kahn and Mark English.

I was formally trained and graduated from East Carolina University. For many years I worked in other creative fields like photography and graphic design, but I dreamed of getting back to painting. Some years ago I took the leap, rented a studio and gave myself a year to see what would happen. It took the entire year for me to produce a single painting I loved.
My work is in several private and corporate collections. I am represented by the Wells Gallery in Charleston, SC, the Design Gallery in Burnsville, and Summit One in Highlands. My work can also be seen at K2 Studio in downtown Asheville.
