Asheville to Alexandria

Jenny Mastin of Odyssey Studios will deliver her 'Trinity of Consciousness' to the Target Gallery in Alexandria, Va. on February 22, 2008. The work is one of 23 juried selections from more than 140 entries for 'The Five Senses' exhibition that will open on March 6 - April 6, 2008. The Target Gallery is part of the National Exhibition Space of the Torpedo Factory Art Center.

Odyssey Center SPRING 2008 CLASSES, March 17 – May 17

Pichasketaxidermist Da Vinci and Lindsay Pichaske have a lot in common.

Both began their artistic career with a physician’s curiosity about the human body. Lindsay studied to be a doctor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before beginning her life in clay. The former Odyssey resident returns to the center this spring to teach “Living Clay Forms,” where she will help you breath life into your figures.

Art Classes for Adults at River’s Edge Studio – Winter/Spring 2008

Classes at River’s Edge Studio are designed for adults who want to experience the joy of creativity. For all levels of experience, classes focus on developing the skills of the artist in a supportive, friendly atmosphere. Employing a “one room schoolhouse” philosophy of education, where beginners and experienced painters work and learn together in a community atmosphere, you can explore your inner creativity while learning the fundamentals of art.

February Show and Sell

Cottonmill Studio artist Christine Dougherty will be showing paintings in a group show Feb. 22 and 23. This is a Show and Sell show, which is a short and sweet show, for Friday night and Saturday only. Several mediums will be represented, such as clothing, ceramics, jewelry, and painting. Desert Moon Designs presents: Open Studio Showcase & Concert

Friday, February 22nd - 5:30p-8:30p
122 Riverside Drive – Cotton Mill Studios – Free Parking

This week several cosmic events will occur: a lunar eclipse, a full moon and Desert Moon Designs Studio’s art opening in the River Arts District.
National award winning artists Julie Spalla and David Lookingbill unveil a “limited” series of masks honoring Native American traditions and stories through a contemporary perspective. A sneak preview of juried studio glass art submitted for a national show in Washington D.C. will be on display. Appetizers, refreshments and gourmet treats will be served.
Singer-songwriter Linda Dickson will be the performing artist. A percentage of all studio sales and donations from the event will be given to the W.C. Reid Center – youth arts program.

Jonas Gerard at the Asheville Community Theater

Jonas Gerard, internationally collected River District Artist, premiered his works at the Asheville Community Theatre’s opening of its completely renovated Lobby Gallery on January 24, 2008. His exhibit of recent works runs January 14th through February 27th.

February Blues Friday (Feb. 22: 5:30-8:30pm)

Desert Moon Designs artists Julie Spalla and David Lookingbill will host this “invitation only” soulful Studio Concert and Art opening with surprise musical guests. Come shake off the winter blahs as they reveal “NEW” award winning glass designs and mixed media creations. 

Proceeds collected from the concert will be donated equally between the performing artists and W.C. Reid Center for their youth arts program. A suggested donation of $10 will include light appetizers and refreshments.

If you are looking for something a little different than the same old happy hour come join the artists and other fun-loving art lovers for an evening of performing and visual art. Seating is limited. This intimate event provides you the flexibility to stay for just a short music set, peruse new art during performance breaks or stay the evening.  Bring your friends along to enjoy great music and ART!
