Color Mixing Basics at River's Edge Studio

A new section of Color Mixing has been added to the schedule at the request of students! Taught by Fleta Monaghan, this class is a great start for adults who wish to learn to paint, and artists who need some updated information and practice with modern pigments. Not sure what to buy, or how to mix the color you need? This is the class for you! River's Edge Studio is located in the historic RIver Arts District of Asheville.

In April we will explore Abstract art historically and in practice with a special topics class in “Abstract Painting”. Get to know some of the greats of Abstract Expressionism and some history of this exciting and ground breaking art movement. Explore the methods used to create paintings both large and small.

RDA artists to teach at John C. Campbell Folk School

Les
Local artists Les Powell and Dawn Dalto will be teaching at the John C. Campbell Folk School in August of 2009.

The course will be a combination of both of their talents.  Les will focus on teaching alternative fired pottery while Dawn works individually with workshop participants on helping them in the professional development of their art careers.

Neutrals

Power of Neutrals – March 29th, 10:00 – 3:00, $65.00, all materials included
Celebrate nature and new growth in classes this March 2008. Practice mixing and painting browns, grays, mixing blacks and the wide range of neutral colors and texture by close observation of barks leaves, feathers and other beautiful objects in the "Power of Neutrals" class. We will work with a simple three color system (red yellow and blue) to mix a wide range of nature's colors and create small paintings suitable for framing.

Composition Foundation – Fri. and Sat, March 14th and 15th 10:00 – 3:00, $130.00, all materials included.
Study how to start a painting a find a pleasing arrangement of objects in the "Composition Foundation" class. We will use objects from nature as our subject, and enjoy the beauty of spring through creative arrangements and close observation of lights and darks. This class is great for those wanting to start a painting of still life. From beginner to advanced. An optional open studio is available on March 16th from 9:00 – 3:00, where you can refine your composition on your own (by donation).

The Porcelain Canvas

Odyssey Center SPRING 2008 CLASSES, March 17 – May 17

Htinnaroi Make your world a little brighter at Heather Tinnaro’s “The Porcelain Canvas” offered at Odyssey Center for Ceramic arts this spring. Heather is a local fixture at RAD and an important regional artist, and this class will help students approach their work with a designer’s eye and painter’s hand.

Living Clay Forms

Odyssey Center SPRING 2008 CLASSES, March 17 – May 17

Pichasketaxidermist Da Vinci and Lindsay Pichaske have a lot in common.

Both began their artistic career with a physician’s curiosity about the human body. Lindsay studied to be a doctor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before beginning her life in clay. The former Odyssey resident returns to the center this spring to teach “Living Clay Forms,” where she will help you breath life into your figures.
