Mrs. Greene of Greene's Mini Mart

Frances Green

Asheville - Frances Louise Young Green, 70, of 40 Greenleaf Circle, died peacefully on Saturday, June 9, 2007, at Mission Hospitals, St. Joseph's Campus.

Frances was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Maggie Fuggs Young. She was a former resident of Cleveland, Ohio, prior to moving to Asheville to establish Green's Mini Mart with her husband.

Frances is survived by her husband of 46 years, James A. Green; sons, Kevin L. Green (Cleopatrick V.) and Keith R. Green (Kishaun) of Asheville; grandchildren, Brea, Keyona, Azana, Kennedi and Tobias; brother, Lawrence Young Jr., of Phoenix; other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ray & Allen Funeral Service.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in memory of Frances for cancer support to Mission Foundation, Oncology Unit, 428 Biltmore Ave., Asheville, NC 28801.

WE LOSE TWO OF OUR BEST

While we are blessed to have a number of long lived neighbors, in the past few months, we have had to say good-bye to two of our elderly stateswomen.Nanniewshower

  Hattie Lou Smith, 95 of 10 1/2 Knoxville Place died Thrusday, October 19, 2006.  A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Sam and Sally Wilson.
    Surviving are her son, Carmen Smith of Asheville, step son Samuel Arrington (Vivian) of Arden; daugther, Jessie Coleman of Asheville; step daughter, Alice Byrd of Asheville; brother Levie Wilson of Asheville, sister, Dora McClain of Queens, NY; 38 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, 27 great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
    She was laid to rest surrounded by family and friends in Mt. Olive Cemetery in Mars Hill, NC on October 23, 2006.  She was much loved and respected.  She will be missed.

    Georganna Bailey, 98 of 64 Clingman Ave, Apt 107 died Saturday, January 13, 2007 at Mission Hospital.  A steady stream of friends and family have come to the neighborhood to pay their respects.

...and on a more positive note, we are still waiting to hear from Uncle Lee what he wants to do for his 101th birthday this March.

LEVIE WILSON'S 100TH

Uncleleesuit Levie Wilson began his life on March 22, 1906 as a resident of Bald Creek in Yancey County.  Living on Hill Street, he worked much of his life as a cook, retiring from St. Joseph's Hospital.  He was also an entrepenuer, helping folks buy cars and trading in real estate.  He sold the land to what is now Young's Nursing Home.  He currently resides, with one of his 10 siblings, Hattie Lou Smith,who will be 95 on March 7th, 2006, in the care of his niece, Jessie Nell Coleman of Knoxville Place.
