Clingman Lofts go to P&Z

Clingman Lofts is first up on the agenda for the next Planning & Zoning meeting, August 1, 2007 at 5pm.
Please come and voice your opinion if you have one... It is possible that 100 Park Avenue may also be included in this P&Z meeting as WECAN neighbors are planning to meet with Smith Wilson and Hank Joiner on Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at 5pm at MHO's community room. (the day before the last filing date for P&Z.. I hope i have this part right but might not)

Clingman Lofts really go to TRC

Image002Here is the first color rendering of the Clingman Lofts proposed for the northwest corner of Clingman Avenue and Owens-Bell Lane.  As I have said before, there will be 21 units with 51% of them meeting the City of Asheville's criteria for being "affordable".  The project formally goes to the Technical Review Committee on July 2, 2007 where i have been asked to go and express WECAN's appreciation for this project.  MHO continues to bring an appropriate mix of housing opportunities to our neighborhood.  We are so lucky to have them as neighbors.

Clingman Lofts got to TRC

Clingman_lofts_site It has been a while since the big ditch above the Silver Dollar was filled up.  MHO will be bringing preliminary plans for the new "Clingman Lofts" development that will sit on top of all that new dirt before the Technical Review Committee of the City of Asheville on May 7, 2007.  The plans i saw show a three story building set a little back from the Clingman Avenue sidewalk, with three well articulated buildings, connected by staircases.  There will be 21 units ranging from 600 sq.ft  for a one bedroom/one bath to 1020 sq.ft for a two bedroom/two bath unit.  As far as their $$$, thanks to the great work of MHO (yes, i am biased) over half of the units will be sold affordably.

MHO BUYS THE ROCK

On March 3, 2006, Cindy Weeks got herself a new project.  For an undisclosed price, Mountain Housing Opportunities purchased a 2 acre parcel of land that includes the Historic Glen Rock Hotel, as well as some property across Depot Street that used to house the old train depot. (demolished in 1968?)  To see the model of the buildings planned (commercial & residential condominiums, as well as rental apartments) visit the MHO offices at 64 Clingman Avenue. Because this is such a large project, the exact time frame for when what will be available is unclear, but some units may be ready in 2007.   This may be the only affordable option left to artists who wish to own their own studios. Please feel free to contact Cindy Weeks @ MHO @ 254-4030 to get your name on the list.
