A Diaphanous Glimpse

Kate Stryker’s debut show offers a diaphanous glimpse into androgyny, physicality, and introspection. The seventeen year old artist best paints from the heart, and produces images that reflect a young person on the cusp of some great, nebulous self-discovery. Her oil paintings are seen through a film; there is a haziness, shadow or texture that cloaks her subjects in uncertainty. This stunning marriage of tangible figures and obscured identity welcomes us to consider the nature of bodies, from their limiting aspects to their freeing ones.
