Creating Large Scale Experimental Watercolors with Nadine Charlsen

An investigation of working in watercolor from 23×30 or larger. Focus your watercolor techniques on large, powerful compositions and images. Through demonstrations, and one-on-one explanations, students will be encouraged to approach this medium in a loose, moody emotional techniques We will discuss methods to create the image by laying in the dark strengths of the composition. Simplify structure and details. Work with strong values and color. Draw less-paint more! Choose your own subject with dramatic value and learn how to bring the painting to life. Students will work from photos, their own reference, sketches, and imagination. You can experiment with; scrubbing, dripping, splashing and glazing and more in an unexpected way!
A workshop for artists with some experience in watercolor who want to explore new and free techniques. Through demonstrations, and one-on-one explanations, students will be encouraged to approach this medium in a bold, relentlessly pure and emotional way.
Some materials will be supplied. A material list will be available to registered participants.
Nadine Charlsen, instructor, is an award winning professional watercolor artist. Her watercolors have been featured in Splash, American Art Collector, Laurel of Asheville, and Asheville Made. She also had an article about her watercolor style in Watercolor Artist, “Making A Scene”-2017. Charlsen is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, life member of Art Students League of New York, member of the Salmagundi Club and National Association of Women Artists.
