Art Garden Presents:
~~~ LOAM ~~~
Grow from the Soil you were Sown in.
Mother and daughter explore layers of the human experience through mixed media. Evoking self-reflection, cultivation, and introspection for personal growth and expansion. The reflective quality and conversations between their works reveal their multi- generational connection of consciousness as they explore the feminine experience.
Artists:
~~~Tarah Singh is a Guyanese – American Artist who grew up between the mountains of western North Carolina and New Jersey. Singh’s conscious integration of feminine expression, rhythms and culture is reflected in her works. Her female forms incorporate symbolic elements to redefine and make a language of her own. Through paintings and sculpture Singh creates a multidimensional commentary about the elements in her reality. She strives to create an amalgam of her experiences and dreams, providing a visual fusion between the raw emotions of her reality and her tender compassion towards humanity.
Her goal as an artist is to have the viewer glimpse through her lens, for the artist is also a historian. Singh wishes to uplift others, as she documents her story and responds to the current world climate with art that promotes inclusivity, because regardless of our age, race, gender, ideals, we are all #Human.–
~~~Alex Stilber is a native born Ashevillian who grew up in the studios of her mother and other local artists. Art has always been an enormous part of her life. Inspired by nature and curiosities of the mind, she creates surreal scenes observing human behavior. Her chaotic style frequently leaves raw sketches showing through paint layers, often repurposed materials, giving a glimpse of her thought process. She merges human and animal forms in an attempt to shrink the gap between humanity and the wild world, and express innate emotional themes- good, bad, beautiful, and ugly. Animal heads procure anonymity for the viewer’s own interpretation of the image. Feminine bodies are symbolic of Mother Nature and are often nude to normalize the beauty of the human body. Her wish is that her work disturbs the comfortable and comforts the disturbed.
A portion of proceeds from LOAM will be donated to the Southside Community Farm (SFC), in the historically Black Southside neighborhood, which sits just east of the River Arts District.
From SCF: “Southside used to be a bustling Black economic center including 14 grocery stores. After deeply damaging urban renewal in the 1970s that economic power was destroyed. Today, Southside exists in food apartheid, systematically denied healthy food access.
“Southside Community Farm is entering it’s 8th season of farming, connecting neighborhood residents to healthy produce and celebrating diverse food cultures. The Southside neighborhood is home to nearly 50% of Asheville’s public housing, including Erskine, Walton Street and Livingston Heights. With little to no healthy food options locally available, Southside Community Farm strives to provide not only our own produce but a collaborative route to food justice through partnerships, educational programming, and events.”
LOAM is generously sponsored by @Asheville Fine Art Printing. We are so grateful for their support!
