Making art is ALL about learning to see. Abstraction looks so easy – but getting an abstract painting to be interesting or compelling – that’s a whole other thing! In this beginner-friendly mini-class, we’ll explore ways of finding inspiring compositions for abstract art! It’s a great introduction to some fundamentals of composition as well as a playful way of developing ideas for your paintings.
We’ll start the afternoon by using handheld “viewfinders” to find and capture possible compositions. Then, we’ll do some quick sketches to refine our concept and find the “bones” of a painting. Finally, we’ll translate that into a small mixed-media painting on paper, bringing some intuition and spontaneity into it!
