SUMMARY:Go With the Flow: Adventures in Fluid Acrylics with Robyn Crawford\, APR 18th (10am to 4pm) 2026
DESCRIPTION:$165.00\nSaturday\, April 18th – 10 AM to 4 PM- $165 – All materials supplied! \nIf you’ve ever watched those hypnotic fluid‑acrylic videos and thought\, I want to feel that magic\, this workshop is your chance to dive in—literally and creatively. Expect to feel mesmerized\, loosened up\, and totally absorbed as you watch color swirl\, stretch\, and dance across your canvas. This is the kind of class where you lose track of time in the best possible way. \nYou’ll experience the joy of letting paint move with you instead of fighting against you\, discovering how different mediums\, consistencies\, and techniques create wildly different effects. Instead of frustration or muddy results\, you’ll feel that satisfying “ohhh\, that’s how it works” click as everything starts to flow. With plenty of demos\, hands‑on experimenting\, and space to play\, you’ll leave with pieces that feel alive—and uniquely yours. \nIt’s a relaxed\, creative\, slightly addictive kind of day\, complete with a lunch break to recharge and admire your works‑in‑progress. All materials are included; all you need to bring is your curiosity (and a snack). \nThis class seats 8 students. For any questions regarding our cancellation or transfer policy\, please refer to the link in our navigation bar. \nRobyn Crawford studied at Emerson College\, Massachusetts College of Art\, and Rochester Institute of Technology’s School of Photographic Arts and Sciences. She has been a mixed media artist\, photographer\, teacher\, and creativity coach for over 30 years and has exhibited work throughout the Carolinas.

SUMMARY:When Light Returns
DESCRIPTION:Mark Bettis Gallery is pleased to announce a new group exhibition\, When Light Returns\, starting April 11th through April 25th 2026. The exhibition draws inspiration from the arrival of spring and the quiet\, powerful renewal that follows winter’s slumber. \nWhen Light Returns explores themes of rebirth\, growth\, and awakening. As the days lengthen and warmth returns\, flowers emerge from thawed ground\, animals stir from rest\, and insects hatch—each beginning again in cycles both delicate and resilient. The works in this exhibition reflect these moments of transformation\, capturing the beauty of emergence and the promise of new beginnings. Through a variety of styles and mediums\, participating artists interpret spring not only as a season\, but as a metaphor for hope\, restoration\, and the persistence of life. \nThe exhibition will be shown at the Mark Bettis Gallery’s River Arts District location from April 11th through April 25th\, 2026 during normal business hours. There will be no opening night. \nMark Bettis Gallery hours are Monday – Thursday 10am to 4pm\, Friday and Saturday 10am to 5pm\, Sundays 11pm-3pm. The gallery is located in the River Arts District at 123 Roberts Street\, Asheville NC 28801. The gallery features unique and distinctive works of art in a variety of mediums including contemporary paintings\, glass\, sculpture\, and mixed media.\nFor more information about the exhibition and the gallery please visit markbettisgallery.com or contact the gallery at 828-660-4968 or markdbettis@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Feminine and the Clay Figure\, with local artist Katie Croft
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an afternoon of working with your hands\, clay and your imagination as we explore our relationship to ancient female figurines with Katie’s thoughtful guidance. \nIn this class\, Katie will introduce us to the realm of experimental archaeology\, using clay as a way to explore the meaning and possible uses of historical Venus Figurines. These figurines appear across many ancient cultures—images of voluptuous female bodies without identifying facial features\, repeated again and again throughout antiquity. While their exact purpose remains unknown\, their presence has endured\, inviting curiosity\, reverence\, and inquiry. \nThrough hands-on making\, we will explore the how and why of these objects\, employing experimental archaeology as a way of learning through embodied practice. \nParticipants will build their own female figurines\, guided by personal intention and informed by culture of origin\, family lineage\, and individual needs\, hopes\, and desires. Throughout the process\, we will reflect together on why we made these objects\, how they might be used\, and how they may continue to influence our lives beyond the workshop. \nWe will work with materials of the ancient makers\, meaning we will be making our figures from clay. There is no experience with clay necessary as within each of you the knowledge already exists to create these figures as your ancestors did.
