SUMMARY:Anastasiia Avramchuk: The Garden of Quiet Resistance exhibition
DESCRIPTION:In a world shaped by war\, displacement\, and a growing sense of uncertainty\, the act of creating and observing beauty becomes a quiet form of resistance. This exhibition of botanical drawings explores inner calm not as an escape from reality\, but as a way of remaining present\, attentive\, and grounded. Through plants\, light\, and careful observation\, the works reflect a belief that even in fragile conditions\, life continues to grow and quietly persist. \nAnastasiia Avramchuk is a Ukrainian botanical artist and designer from Kyiv\, currently based in North Carolina. She works with ink\, watercolor\, colored pencils\, and digital illustration\, focusing on the quiet resilience and structural beauty of plant life. She is a member of the Society of Ukrainian Botanical Artists. Her work has received international recognition\, including the Best Debut award at the Botanical Art Ukraine exhibition in 2021. In 2024\, her watercolor Casuarina equisetifolia was selected among the top three works at the international exhibition Rare Plants of the World in Kyiv. \n\nhttps://avramchuk.art/ \nhttps://www.instagram.com/anastasyavram

SUMMARY:Ukrainian Pysanky Easter egg workshop
DESCRIPTION:Pysanky are a lot like Asheville- unique\, fun and colorful!\n\n\n\nIn this workshop we will be making beautiful Ukrainian Easter eggs – pysanky. You will learn the method of batik – also called wax-resist – dying. SUMMARY:How Long Will It Last? A contemplation on impermanence\, grief and flowers
DESCRIPTION:“How long will it last?” is a common question in a florist’s career and a mirror to our impermanence. Inspired by the reverence\, companionship\, and guidance of a death doula\, we want to invite the public to hold hands with existence and mortality. \nFascinated by the ephemeral\, the objective is to create an immersive portrayal of the transitions from life to death in a way that challenges our measure of worth by longevity and durability. Our installation will be composed of flowers and plant material and enhanced by play of light\, reflection\, height\, and poignant ephemera to envelope participants in the spectrum of transience and grief. \nThe creative team is: Hanna Zahory\, Grace Bates-Toulson\, Allison Omlor and Gabrielle Thompson

SUMMARY:When Light Returns
DESCRIPTION:Mark Bettis Gallery is pleased to announce a new group exhibition\, When Light Returns\, starting April 11th through April 25th 2026. The exhibition draws inspiration from the arrival of spring and the quiet\, powerful renewal that follows winter’s slumber. \nWhen Light Returns explores themes of rebirth\, growth\, and awakening. As the days lengthen and warmth returns\, flowers emerge from thawed ground\, animals stir from rest\, and insects hatch—each beginning again in cycles both delicate and resilient. The works in this exhibition reflect these moments of transformation\, capturing the beauty of emergence and the promise of new beginnings. Through a variety of styles and mediums\, participating artists interpret spring not only as a season\, but as a metaphor for hope\, restoration\, and the persistence of life. \nThe exhibition will be shown at the Mark Bettis Gallery’s River Arts District location from April 11th through April 25th\, 2026 during normal business hours. There will be no opening night. \nMark Bettis Gallery hours are Monday – Thursday 10am to 4pm\, Friday and Saturday 10am to 5pm\, Sundays 11pm-3pm. The gallery is located in the River Arts District at 123 Roberts Street\, Asheville NC 28801. The gallery features unique and distinctive works of art in a variety of mediums including contemporary paintings\, glass\, sculpture\, and mixed media.\nFor more information about the exhibition and the gallery please visit markbettisgallery.com or contact the gallery at 828-660-4968 or markdbettis@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Modern Florals with Pen\, Ink & Watercolors with local artist Casi Fordham.
DESCRIPTION:This is great class for anyone who loves the idea of creating with florals and/or wants more time and support with basic sketching that you can use as a springboard for your art-making. You do not need any experience with drawing for this class\, just a desire to learn some foundational skills with observation and illustration- starting with botanicals\, using spring blooms at your table for inspiration! \nIn this class local watercolor artist Casi Fordham will share tips\, techniques and tools for botanical illustrations\, with emphasis on loose sketching (aka: not exact representations\, but showing a likeness to flowers). Following the sketching portion of the class\, Casi will guide you with mixing and applying watercolors to your sketches. \nYou will learn various wet into wet watercolor techniques\, dry-brushing & using dark & light values as you build layers of color and shape to create your blooms\, adding details and embellishments afterward. \nAllowing the pigment and water to interact as they expand across the page together is a great way to trust the creative process as it unfolds. Watercolors have a way of leading and surprising you if you allow them to! \nYou’ll be guided in exploring basic watercolor techniques\, breaking down the elements of building values\, while being guided by demos each step along the way. You will bring home your practice pieces as well as a larger piece you’ll work up to. \nPLEASE BRING WITH YOU: a vase for your flower (s) that you will place in front of you for visual reference.

You will also be familiarized with the wide range of Ukrainian folk art traditional patterns\, designs and symbols and their history. The designs are made with beeswax which is melted in the flame of a candle and applied to the egg using a tool called a kistka. The eggs are dipped into successively darker dyes. At the end of the process the beeswax is melted off to reveal the beautiful and colorful design. You may use the traditional patterns\, or also freestyle and make up your own design. Pysanky are fun\, relaxing\, and meditative to create. And\, the symbols are all good wishes\, so it is always the perfect time to create eggs with symbols wishing for good health\, long life\, strength and protection and other good things. \n\n\n\n$75 per person (cash/check) or $78 (credit card) includes use of all supplies.
