DESCRIPTION:During this weekend workshop\, you’ll dive into expressive color exploration\, guided by technique options that support painting to a larger scale. \nIf you’ve ever taken a class with Tania you know you’ll leave having laughed\, and learned (and maybe a little in love with acrylic painting! Her classes are an energetic mix of laughter and color\, coupled with lots of support and guidance with new painting techniques. If you don’t know her yet\, you are in for a treat! \nYou’ll start off each morning with a color warm up exercise on small canvas boards that Tania will provide. \nIn this beginner level 2 workshop\, you’ll begin with some mini warmups -on small canvas boards and mixing demos. You will be supported throughout the weekend in learning color mixing strategies and combos\, by understanding how color theory works. \nTania will have you get familiar with how to gracefully blend colors or add in bold paint applications \, mixing and matching with a palette knife technique and using color theory of complimenting colors while recognizing what colors are warm or cool and lastly how to use this color control to evoke emotion in your artwork! \nThere will be a break for you to take lunch each day around noon\, with suggestions for nearby cafes- or BYO lunch and store in fridge.

You’ll begin by selecting the fabrics and thread colors you feel most drawn to\, followed by arranging\, layering\, cutting\, and hand-stitching your materials into a one-of-a-kind textile composition. \nElizabeth will guide you in learning the straight stitch\, a simple and beautiful hand-embroidery technique used to connect fabrics and build surface texture. \nHand embroidery cannot be rushed. It invites you into a calming\, repetitive rhythm\, asking for just enough focus to keep you rooted in the moment. DESCRIPTION:Tania wants to take your acrylic painting relationship to the next level – using a larger canvas! \nDuring this weekend workshop\, you’ll dive into expressive color exploration\, guided by technique options that support painting to a larger scale. \nIf you’ve ever taken a class with Tania you know you’ll leave having laughed\, and learned (and maybe a little in love with acrylic painting! Her classes are an energetic mix of laughter and color\, coupled with lots of support and guidance with new painting techniques. If you don’t know her yet\, you are in for a treat! \nBring your heavy body acrylic paint (list of color suggestions attached below) and an inspiration picture or two and one larger canvas ( go with a size that you feel would work best for your painting like 16×20″ or 18×24″ or if you prefer square 20×20 or 24 x 24 canvas as long as it is acrylic gesso primed you can get regular stretched canvas or more expensive gallery wrapped canvas.) You’ll start off each morning with a color warm up exercise on small canvas boards that Tania will provide. \nIn this beginner level 2 workshop\, you’ll begin with some mini warmups -on small canvas boards and mixing demos. You will be supported throughout the weekend in learning color mixing strategies and combos\, by understanding how color theory works. \nTania will have you get familiar with how to gracefully blend colors or add in bold paint applications \, mixing and matching with a palette knife technique and using color theory of complimenting colors while recognizing what colors are warm or cool and lastly how to use this color control to evoke emotion in your artwork! \nThere will be a break for you to take lunch each day around noon\, with suggestions for nearby cafes- or BYO lunch and store in fridge. \nWe can’t wait to host you!

DESCRIPTION:In this class we will cover a variety of mediums\, such as watercolor\, oil and acrylic\, focus on creating depth and form through the strategic use of value\, color\, and atmospheric perspective. You will learn to see and paint trees as masses of light and shadow rather than individual leaves\, focusing on techniques like blocking in large value shapes\, layering colors\, and creating texture. You will learn how to mix and apply a variety of greens to create realism by the use of both cool and warm shadows.  We will go over the use of different brushstrokes to create foliage and branches\, and refining shapes with details like “sky holes” for realism.

I’ll show you how to use nippers to cut china safely\, explain the right types of adhesives and do a grout demo while having a ton of fun. The 12″ terracotta planters\, lots of plates and cups\, ball chain\, tiles\, shells\, templates for the face and more will be supplied. Lots of tips shared from years of transforming pots. You will go home with plenty of thinset and grout to finish your wonderful piece. You bring your creative spirit\, plates and china (about 6-8 plates if you want) and the urge to break things. DESCRIPTION:Pysanky are a lot like Asheville- unique\, fun and colorful!\n\n\n\nIn this workshop we will be making beautiful Ukrainian Easter eggs – pysanky- into holiday ornaments. You will learn the method of batik – also called wax-resist – dying. You will also be familiarized with the wide range of Ukrainian folk art traditional patterns\, designs and symbols and their history. The designs are made with beeswax which is melted in the flame of a candle and applied to the egg using a tool called a kistka. The eggs are dipped into successively darker dyes. At the end of the process the beeswax is melted off to reveal the beautiful and colorful design. You may use the traditional patterns\, or also freestyle and make up your own design. Pysanky are fun\, relaxing\, and meditative to create.
