DESCRIPTION:Learn about this FUN AND VERSATILE pastel medium! \nIn this new class from portrait artist Lorelle Bacon\, students will learn how to blend different shades of black and white pan pastels\, while completing a step-by-step pastel portrait! \nIn the first day of instruction students will choose one of the three shown portraits to learn from. Lorelle will show students how to lay in the first layer with a focus on values\, and then moving on to refine the portrait and add in fine details. This is a good way to learn how to handle pan pastels\, before investing in a variety of colors. You will learn to create smooth skin using subtle value changes – and if you struggle with values\, this is the class for you! \nOn the second day\, once you are more comfortable with the process\, we will move forward and apply what you learned to two more portraits; the first containing more wrinkles and planes and then a portrait of a child\, which is harder than a man or a woman! Creating very subtle shape and form takes time and patience. You also have the choice to bring in your OWN photo reference\, which Lorelle will assist you in choosing. \nThis class seats 8 students. SUMMARY:Ukrainian Pysanky Egg Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Pysanky are a lot like Asheville- unique\, fun and colorful! \nIn this workshop we will be making beautiful Ukrainian Easter eggs – pysanky. You will learn the method of batik – also called wax-resist – dying. You will also be familiarized with the wide range of Ukrainian folk art traditional patterns\, designs and symbols and their history. The designs are made with beeswax which is melted in the flame of a candle and applied to the egg using a tool called a kistka. The eggs are dipped into successively darker dyes. At the end of the process the beeswax is melted off to reveal the beautiful and colorful design. You may use the traditional patterns\, or also freestyle and make up your own design. Pysanky are fun\, relaxing\, and meditative to create. DESCRIPTION:Join Miriam Hughes as she teaches you the value of important backgrounds! Often in painting the background is left as an afterthought – yet it is as critically important as the subject. \nThrough using a variety of watercolor techniques including layering\, pouring\, masking and removing paint\, Miriam will show students how to include the background before and during the process of painting. This will help students avoid the dreaded question – what do I do now? \nStudents will have ample time to create pieces using grids\, washes\, masking\, and watercolor pours. This class will include demonstrations and techniques\, and guide students on how to think of the backgrounds at the same time they are composing your work. In addition to working with watercolors\, this class will utilize pen\, ink\, markers\, gel pens\, metallic pens and metallic watercolors. \nThis class seats 8 students. DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, June 26th – 10 AM to 4 PM- $155 – All materials supplied! \nFluid acrylics are crazy mesmerizing and highly addictive – come get hooked yourself! \nHave you seen the YouTube videos and wanted to try it? Have you tried it\, but been frustrated by a muddy mess? Come learn the ins and outs of working acrylics in this fun way and get in the flow! We will cover different pouring mediums\, paint mixing and consistency\, different techniques for applying and moving paint\, curing and sealing your work\, troubleshooting\, and more! \nThis class will also have many demos and\, of course\, play time for you to create your own pieces to take home. You should also pack a snack or lunch\, as we will take a lunch break about half-way through. All materials will be provided. \nThis class seats 8 students. \nRobyn Crawford studied at Emerson College\, Massachusetts College of Art\, and Rochester Institute of Technology’s School of Photographic Arts and Sciences. She has been a mixed media artist\, photographer\, teacher\, and creativity coach for over 30 years and has exhibited work throughout the Carolinas.
