DESCRIPTION:Pysanky are a lot like Asheville- unique\, fun and colorful!\n\n\n\nIn this workshop we will be making beautiful Ukrainian Easter eggs – pysanky- into Valentines. You will learn the method of batik – also called wax-resist – dying. You will also be familiarized with the wide range of Ukrainian folk art traditional patterns\, designs and symbols and their history. The designs are made with beeswax which is melted in the flame of a candle and applied to the egg using a tool called a kistka. The eggs are dipped into successively darker dyes. At the end of the process the beeswax is melted off to reveal the beautiful and colorful design. You may use the traditional patterns\, or also freestyle and make up your own design. Pysanky are fun\, relaxing\, and meditative to create. And\, the symbols are all good wishes\, so it is always the perfect time to create eggs with symbols wishing for good health\, long life\, strength and protection and other good things. \n\n\n\n$75 per person (cash/check) or $78 (credit card) includes use of all supplies. DESCRIPTION:Pysanky are a lot like Asheville- unique\, fun and colorful!\n\n\n\nIn this workshop we will be making beautiful Ukrainian Easter eggs – pysanky. You will learn the method of batik – also called wax-resist – dying. You will also be familiarized with the wide range of Ukrainian folk art traditional patterns\, designs and symbols and their history. The designs are made with beeswax which is melted in the flame of a candle and applied to the egg using a tool called a kistka. The eggs are dipped into successively darker dyes. At the end of the process the beeswax is melted off to reveal the beautiful and colorful design. You may use the traditional patterns\, or also freestyle and make up your own design. Pysanky are fun\, relaxing\, and meditative to create. DESCRIPTION:Join us as we explore the world of landscape oil painting! We’ll start with the essential gear you’ll need\, then move into hands-on usage and foundational concepts like value\, composition\, and brushwork. \nStudents should bring:\nOil Paint: Minimum (white\, yellow\, red\, dark blue) Best to have: Yellow cool ( Lemon or cadmium light) Yellow warm (Cadmium Yellow) Red warm ( Cadmium light red) Red cool (Alizarin Crimson) Blue cool (Cobalt) Blue warm (Ultramarine) Phthalo Blue and/or Viridian Dark Brown- Burnt/Raw Umber\, Van Dyke\, Sepia\nPalette – neutral gray palette – a piece of glass with grey paper works\nCanvas – 8×10 or 9×12\n1” Flat and a medium round brush at minimum. SUMMARY:Creating Handmade Journals with with guest artist Katrina Shoemaker
DESCRIPTION:Are you someone who’s yearning to start an art journal practice\, or maybe you already create in one but you’d love to actually have your own from- scratch\, handmade journal? \nIn this colorful full day workshop\, guest artist Katrina Shoemaker will lead you in a fun step by step process of creating your very own – unique-to-you art journal! On Saturday you will learn how to create “signatures” which are small booklets of papers that are sewn together\, followed by creating beautiful\, unique covers using upcycled cardboard & beautiful papers and then will learn how to create a beautiful fabric spine to hold it all together. These journals are specially designed to lay flat no matter where you open them. If you have ever worked in a journal of any kind\, you know how important this is! \nDuring the second half of the class\, Katrina will guide you in conquering the fear of working within the pristine new pages of your shiny new art journal! Usually the toughest part of working within the journal is just making that first mark! You’ll be invited to use an array of papers of various textures\, colors and patterns to create collaged-backgrounds that will form interesting pages\, upon which to add your personal creative expressions. \nWe will learn how to create a background\, a focal point and add a sentiment to a journal page. You’ll be invited to experiment with a variety of techniques and mediums\, and Katrina will teach you how to bring them all together to complete a full page in your new journal. Explore journal possibilities with an array of beautiful materials at your fingertips\, working and playing with collage fodder\, gellie prints (with acrylic paints)\, different types of ink pens and other tools for creating various styles of mark-making & more. \nPlease bring a favorite quote or saying with you if you have one! \nAll materials are included for both days. No experience is needed!
