SUMMARY:Anastasiia Avramchuk: The Garden of Quiet Resistance opening reception
DESCRIPTION:In a world shaped by war\, displacement\, and a growing sense of uncertainty\, the act of creating and observing beauty becomes a quiet form of resistance. This exhibition of botanical drawings explores inner calm not as an escape from reality\, but as a way of remaining present\, attentive\, and grounded. Through plants\, light\, and careful observation\, the works reflect a belief that even in fragile conditions\, life continues to grow and quietly persist. \nAnastasiia Avramchuk is a Ukrainian botanical artist and designer from Kyiv\, currently based in North Carolina. She works with ink\, watercolor\, colored pencils\, and digital illustration\, focusing on the quiet resilience and structural beauty of plant life. She is a member of the Society of Ukrainian Botanical Artists. Her work has received international recognition\, including the Best Debut award at the Botanical Art Ukraine exhibition in 2021. In 2024\, her watercolor Casuarina equisetifolia was selected among the top three works at the international exhibition Rare Plants of the World in Kyiv.

SUMMARY:Pink Dog Mardi Gras: Lovers\, Sinners\, and Misfits exhibition
DESCRIPTION:The artists of Pink Dog Creative explore the cultural fusion of Mardi Gras in the upcoming group \nexhibition Pink Dog Mardi Gras: Lovers\, Sinners\, and Misfits. \nTwenty-five artists present works encompassing a multi-faceted interpretation of the holiday: the duality of \nindulgence and restraint\, the vibrant visuals of beads\, sequins and feathers\, the symbolic colors of purple\, \ngreen and gold: “justice\, faith and power\,” the European influence of masquerade\, and the exuberance of \nNew Orleans’ renowned parades\, elaborate parties and unique Cajun and African American traditions. \nMardi Gras\, literally “Fat Tuesday\,” traditionally marks the entrance into a period of spiritual penitence. \nHowever\, the celebration now extends far beyond its religious origins as a display of deep cultural and \nregional identity\, and a festive celebration to let loose and mark the changing of the season. \nEach artist was invited to explore this lively theme in their own way and individual medium. Participating \nartists are Patricia Anastasi\, Tim Barnwell\, Spencer Beals\, Karen Keil Brown\, Christie Calaycay\, Lucy \nCobos\, Heather Divoky\, Mark Harmon\, Liz Hozier\, Andrew Mastriani\, Sandy McAslan\, Gael Perry Pearson\, Joseph Pearson\, \nJeremy Phillips\, Patricia Phillips\, Tricia Reeks\, Erica Schaffel\, Pippin Schupbach\, Viola Spells\, Sarah St \nLaurent\, Aaron Tucker\, Larry Turner\, Christine VanCott\, Cindy Walton\, Emelie Weber Wade\, Andrea Kulish Wilhelm\, \nXCVI and Noel Yovovich. \nContact: \nAndrea Kulish

DESCRIPTION:Join us for The Incidental Moment opening this Saturday from 4-6pm at the Pink Dog Gallery! Krug’s gestural brushwork and abstracted figurative and landscape work represents the spontaneous and incidental spirit of her social and community perceptions. The moods conveyed suggest a lively energy and connection to her world. She has had numerous solo and group exhibitions with collectors found throughout the US and South Africa. Wieder will be showing recent photography that he has made on the streets of Asheville. These images hope to show the spirit of individuals in their public setting. His forthcoming book\, We Will Not Be Removed: The People of King School Park\, will be released in the fall.

SUMMARY:The Totem: Family\, Spirit and Culture Artists explore and interpret this ancient custom.
DESCRIPTION:Opening reception: Saturday\, November 2\, 2024\, 5-7pm at the gallery.\nArtist talk at 5:30. \nIn this exhibition\, twelve artists reinterpret the concept of totems\, exploring themes of family\, spirit\, and culture. Most pieces adheres to a 72″ x 9″ format\, echoing traditional totem shapes while allowing for diverse artistic expressions.\nTotems have long symbolized connections between people\, nature\, and ideas. Our artists draw on this rich history\, presenting works that reflect on identity\, heritage\, and community in contemporary contexts.\nThrough various mediums and styles\, these modern totems invite viewers to contemplate their own connections to family and culture. As you explore the exhibition\, consider how these vertical forms convey personal narratives and universal themes within a shared visual language.
