Expect to feel mesmerized\, loosened up\, and totally absorbed as you watch color swirl\, stretch\, and dance across your canvas. This is the kind of class where you lose track of time in the best possible way. \nYou’ll experience the joy of letting paint move with you instead of fighting against you\, discovering how different mediums\, consistencies\, and techniques create wildly different effects. Instead of frustration or muddy results\, you’ll feel that satisfying “ohhh\, that’s how it works” click as everything starts to flow. With plenty of demos\, hands‑on experimenting\, and space to play\, you’ll leave with pieces that feel alive—and uniquely yours. \nIt’s a relaxed\, creative\, slightly addictive kind of day\, complete with a lunch break to recharge and admire your works‑in‑progress. SUMMARY:Vintage Photo Effects in Encaustic with Bridget Benton\, APR 8TH (
DESCRIPTION:$185.00\nWednesday\, April 8th – 10 AM to 5 PM- $185 – All materials for class are included! \nIf you’ve been wanting to add moody effects to your photography\, or combine photos and encaustic\, this is a great one-day\, beginner-friendly intro! Bridget will supply images in class for you to use already printed with archival inks on encaustic-friendly paper\, so no need to bring anything! \nBridget will share her favorite method for mounting photographs on cradled wood panels\, as well as the step-by-step method she uses to layer colored pencil\, watercolor\, encaustic medium\, oil paint\, and pan pastels to bring the images to life. The effect is a lot like a wonderful\, vintage\, hand-tinted photograph! Add collage elements and textured encaustic paint into the encaustic\, and the results can be quirky\, energetic\, and much more modern! \nStudents will have an opportunity to work with two images\, one sized for an 8×8 panel and one sized for an 8×10 panel. Students will be able to choose from a variety of black and white or sepia-toned “found ancestor” portraits\, landscapes\, and more. \nWant to use your own images? Bridget will reach out a few weeks before class\, and for an extra fee\, students with digital photo experience can send two images to Bridget for formatting and printing. \nStudents will come away with two completed pieces\, as well as information on how to print and work with their own images to create “encaustic photo effects” in their own home studios. Participants will also receive basic instruction on safety and as well as techniques for working with encaustic medium and encaustic collage. \nThis class seats 8 students. Using Vine\, Willow\, Compressed\, and Charcoal pencils students will test different mark-making techniques on a few different artworks in order to reveal shapes and textures. \nLearn the benefits of wearing a latex-free glove whilst drawing to keep hands clean – your fingers are among the best tools for smearing and softening shadows! There’s even more – Heidi will guide students through the use of soft leather\, smudge sticks\, cotton swabs\, and erasers. Take your learned techniques and tricks home with you to continue your Charcoal journey\, and discover what makes this fantastic medium so expressive and addictive! \nThis class seats 8 students. DESCRIPTION:This OPEN STUDIO TIME is for students who have taken at least ONE two-day encaustic workshop with Bridget\, or have equivalent encaustic experience. If you want to make sure you qualify\, shoot us an email at gallery@310art.com! \nEncaustic open studio days are FINALLY here! Let’s put the new encaustic classroom to use and build community while we do it. \nBridget will set up the classroom\, provide all the equipment and basic materials from her Encaustic Comprehensive workshop (including up to ½ lb of encaustic medium each) and have the wax warm when you walk in! There won’t be any organized demos or instruction\, but Bridget will be available to help you problem solve and remind you of the basic steps. \nIf you’ve been wanting to work on an encaustic project but don’t have an encaustic set-up at home\, this is the perfect opportunity! Start a new piece\, bring in a work-in-progress\, or try something new! Refine or practice a technique\, or get some support on that project you’ve been envisioning. Bonus? DESCRIPTION:This OPEN STUDIO TIME is for students who have taken at least ONE two-day encaustic workshop with Bridget\, or have equivalent encaustic experience. If you want to make sure you qualify\, shoot us an email at gallery@310art.com! \nEncaustic open studio days are FINALLY here! Let’s put the new encaustic classroom to use and build community while we do it. \nBridget will set up the classroom\, provide all the equipment and basic materials from her Encaustic Comprehensive workshop (including up to ½ lb of encaustic medium each) and have the wax warm when you walk in! There won’t be any organized demos or instruction\, but Bridget will be available to help you problem solve and remind you of the basic steps. \nIf you’ve been wanting to work on an encaustic project but don’t have an encaustic set-up at home\, this is the perfect opportunity! Start a new piece\, bring in a work-in-progress\, or try something new! Refine or practice a technique\, or get some support on that project you’ve been envisioning. Bonus? Get out of the house\, hang out with your fellow encaustic buddies\, and get the inspiration flowing! \nThis session seats six students.

DESCRIPTION:Join Miriam Hughes as she teaches you the value of important backgrounds! Often in painting the background is left as an afterthought – yet it is as critically important as the subject. \nThrough using a variety of watercolor techniques including layering\, pouring\, masking and removing paint\, Miriam will show students how to include the background before and during the process of painting. This will help students avoid the dreaded question – what do I do now? \nStudents will have ample time to create pieces using grids\, washes\, masking\, and watercolor pours. This class will include demonstrations and techniques\, and guide students on how to think of the backgrounds at the same time they are composing your work. In addition to working with watercolors\, this class will utilize pen\, ink\, markers\, gel pens\, metallic pens and metallic watercolors. \nThis class seats 8 students. DESCRIPTION:Learn about this FUN AND VERSATILE pastel medium! \nIn this new class from portrait artist Lorelle Bacon\, students will learn how to blend different shades of black and white pan pastels\, while completing a step-by-step pastel portrait! \nIn the first day of instruction students will choose one of the three shown portraits to learn from. Lorelle will show students how to lay in the first layer with a focus on values\, and then moving on to refine the portrait and add in fine details. This is a good way to learn how to handle pan pastels\, before investing in a variety of colors. You will learn to create smooth skin using subtle value changes – and if you struggle with values\, this is the class for you! \nOn the second day\, once you are more comfortable with the process\, we will move forward and apply what you learned to two more portraits; the first containing more wrinkles and planes and then a portrait of a child\, which is harder than a man or a woman! Creating very subtle shape and form takes time and patience. You also have the choice to bring in your OWN photo reference\, which Lorelle will assist you in choosing. \nThis class seats 8 students. You will learn how to prepare the ink for painting\, how to correctly hold the Sumi brush\, and how to practice traditional movements and brushstrokes – along with what types of rice papers to use for this beautiful art form. As you practice you will see your strokes progress with the ability to accomplish paintings that can be framed and displayed! \nThe beauty of this simplistic style of painting isthe fundamental brush strokes of lines and dots. These techniques are centuries old and have been handed down from one master Sumi-e teacher to another. Sumi-e is a wonderful discipline that is very relaxing and provides an artistic escape from our everyday hectic world. \nThis class will teach beginning students\, while previous students are welcome to attend and continue to advance their brush strokes. \nThis class seats 8 students.
