SUMMARY:Bespoke Block-Printing on Paper & Fabric\, with local textile artist Jess Kaufman
DESCRIPTION:Join local textile artist Jess Kaufman for an afternoon of community & creativity while learning the skills needed to not just carve your own unique linoleum stamps\, but to also get beautiful prints with them over and over on any fabric\, paper or clothing item! \nDuring this beginner-friendly class\, Jess will guide you in learning how to design & carve your own unique & fun stamp designs\, as well as how to transfer them to various paper & fabric surfaces to create your own print designs\, tea towels\, & one-of-a-kind patches you can use to mend torn or old clothing- giving them new life! \nBring an image or two that inspires you! Example: a bird image or other simple-to- carve shapes like: a seed pod\, a fruit or two\, a flower or leaf\, etc. \nThe first half of class will be devoted to understanding the fundamentals of good design\, layout\, and carving out of any simple image you would like. We will then spend about an hour printing with your stamps\, each others’\, and Jess’s awesome collection of stamps. Each student will be provided with several sets of printing cards and fabric patches and tea towels to choose from. \nAll materials you need for this class are provided but please feel free to bring one (1) item of clothing to make more magic onto from your home collection. Solid\, light colors work best- and nothing too textured.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the arrival of Spring with creativity\, community & fresh flowers at your table! \nIn this class you will learn the foundational techniques in watercolor painting\, using fresh Spring blooms as your inspiration. We will have plenty of blooms available for you\, and if you have some blooms from your garden or elsewhere that you love\, feel free to bring some along! \nLocal watercolor artist Casi Fordham will guide you in learning various wet into wet watercolor techniques\, dry-brushing & using dark & light values as you build layers of color and shape to create your blooms\, adding details and embellishments afterward. \nAllowing the pigment and water to interact as they expand across the page together is a great way to trust the creative process as it unfolds. Watercolors have a way of leading and surprising you if you allow them to! \nYou will begin with a step-by-step watercolor demo where you will warm-up with Casi’s guidance\, and then transition into several rounds of layering and painting on your background papers. We’ll explore basic techniques\, break down the elements of building values\, guided by demos each step along the way. Whether you’re brand new to painting or have years of experience\, you’ll be gently guided while also encouraged to trust your own creative instincts. \nWorking with acrylic paints\, we’ll explore color\, form\, line\, and value through bold brushstrokes\, thick and thin lines\, and playful\, expressive interpretations of flowers on canvas. The focus will be on painting loosely\, discovering your own abstract style\, and most importantly — enjoying the process. \nDuring class\, Alison will guide you step by step in creating boldly painted flowers using a loose\, abstract approach. We’ll begin with a quick charcoal sketch of a floral bouquet still-life directly on the canvas. SUMMARY:Soul Stitches: Autobiographical Embroidery with guest artist Elizabeth Garlington
DESCRIPTION:This two-day immersive workshop explores the intuitive process of embroidered fabric collage. \nWe will explore fiber art that explores themes of resilience and healing via the art of hand sewing and embroidered words on fabric as an added element to the collage process. \nOpen to all skill levels\, students will first learn foundational embroidery techniques by creating a “sampler” of running and back stitches\, including lettering. Students will learn to embroider text based on their own journal writings and important quotes. \nFavorite fabrics and/or vintage linen as base fabrics are encouraged as this element will bring an additional layer of meaning to our process/product. This introspective workshop invites personal exploration and collective connection. Inspired by story\, life experiences\, and playing with many colors of embroidery floss\, threads\, yarns\, and fabrics\, students will take inspiration from their daily life and written expression to create an original embroidered work of fabric collage art which could lead to a meditative daily art practice. \nThis class is a place to find your own unique making. \nStudents are encouraged to bring: any journal writings\, meaningful quotes\, written expressions\, as well as favorite fabrics and/or vintage linen as their base fabric–all bringing an additional layer of meaning to this art form. The purchase of a 6” and 10” embroidery hoop is suggested so that the embroidery process you begin in this workshop can be continued in your own time and space. \nThis is a beginner-friendly workshop and no experience is needed! Come as you are!

DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a cozy winter afternoon of texture\, color and round weaving! \nYou are invited to spend a Saturday afternoon discovering the meditative art of circular weaving during this textural feel-good (literally) workshop. Imagine turning a beautiful sunset\, mountain vista or desert landscape into a colorful weaving\, using a palette of various gorgeous yarns and fibers . . . \nGuided by local textile artist Katie Knorovsky\, you’ll tap into your intuition to create tactile wall hangings while playing with color\, manipulating textural fibers\, and enjoying the therapeutic pace of weaving by hand. Learn the trick to turning any hoop into a frame loom and how to warp a round loom\, including how to set up your weaving with an open center. Then we’ll explore a variety of beginner-friendly hand-weaving techniques to add texture\, dimension\, and organic shapes and create a one-of-a-kind wall hanging\, using a range of yarn\, wool\, and other premium fibers. \nFinally\, we’ll cover finishing techniques to secure threads and prepare your artwork for displaying at home.
