SUMMARY:Adult Studio: Pysanky at the Asheville Art Museum
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop we will be making beautiful Ukrainian Easter eggs – pysanky. You will learn the method of batik – also called wax-resist – dying. You will also be familiarized with the wide range of traditional Ukrainian folk art patterns\, designs and symbols and their history. The designs are made with melted beeswax which is applied to the egg using a tool called a kistka. The eggs are dipped into successively darker dyes. At the end of the process the beeswax is melted off to reveal the beautiful and colorful design. \n\nAndrea Kulish Wilhelm is a first generation Ukrainian American who learned to make pysanky from her mother when she was five years old. Based in Asheville\, NC\, she is an artist\, graphic designer\, and pysanky teacher at Studio A in the River Arts District. She teaches hundreds of people a year\, and her life’s mission is to spread joy through Ukrainian pysanky eggs. Andrea is also fundraising to help Ukraine with Humanitarian Aid and is the founder of AVL4Ukraine. \n\n$75 (Museum Members receive 10% discount with code at checkout; two partial scholarships for underserved populations; materials included)

SUMMARY:Adult Studio: Textural Painting // Painting with the Earth at the Asheville Art Museum
DESCRIPTION:Date:\nSaturday\, February 28\, 2026\nTime:\n12:00 pm – 4:00 pm\nCost:\n$75 (Museum Members receive 10% discount with code at checkout; two partial scholarships for underserved populations; materials included)\nTickets: \nAdult Studio: Textural Painting // Painting with the Earth\nThis one-day intensive workshop invites participants to explore the expressive power of texture through natural pigments and mixed-media techniques\, inspired by the light\, color\, and atmosphere of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Using American Impressionism as a guide\, participants will create richly layered paintings that combine earth-based materials\, acrylics\, and found objects to capture fleeting effects of light\, color\, and mood. The workshop emphasizes process\, intuition\, and discovery\, encouraging both beginners and experienced artists to experiment\, loosen up\, and find their own way of seeing and creating. \nCatherine Baumhauer is a mixed-media painter based in Asheville whose work explores texture\, color\, and the emotional resonance of materials. Drawing inspiration from urban and natural landscapes\, Catherine combines traditional and unconventional techniques to create layered\, immersive paintings. She has exhibited widely and is passionate about teaching art that encourages intuition\, experimentation\, and personal expression.
