SUMMARY:Costume Figure Drawing
DESCRIPTION:An alternative to nude figure drawing\, where participants can create illustrations of models who are clothed and in costume. Foundation Studios resident artists Andrew Beck and Charles J. Paine III aim to provide a unique experience to the Asheville art community that is open to all ages and skill levels. The inaugural session will be held on Thursday\, July 11th\, and recurring classes will happen on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. Each session will have different themes with models in different costumes. The sessions cost $16 per person\, and tickets can be purchased on our website in advance or at the door.

Songs about gravel backroads\, old country stores\, real people and real places. Songs about the heart and soul of America’s working folks.”\nRyan Sise (guitar) has toured the entire United States with various bands opening for everyone from ZZ Top to Carlos Santana to Eric Gales. Dave Halstead (drums) was onstage playing jazz for some of the greatest names in the genre at 15 years old in New York. Since then he has appeared on countless recordings and stages playing everything from jazz to country to rock. Gary Davis (upright and electric bass; vocals) is also a veteran of many years on stages across the US from the Opry Stage to opening for acts such as the Little River Band\, Big Head Todd and many others.

SUMMARY:Intro to Mosaics Class
DESCRIPTION:Join Linda Girardi from Elemental Art in making mosaic art for your home. You will create at least two mosaic coasters or one trivet using color blocking with a large selection of stain glass tiles. All tools and materials will be provided. You will learn about substrates\, adhesives\, and grouts. You will design and place your tiles in class. Because the pieces must cure for 24 hours\, you will be given all the materials and instructions you need to grout your pieces at home. Or you are welcome to come back to the studio to finish your pieces or have Linda grout them for you. This workshop is appropriate for both adults and young adults (ages 13 and older).

SUMMARY:First Friday Wine + Cheese Mixer
DESCRIPTION:Featuring a FREE wine tasting with Empire Distributors and live music by the Tony Black Trio! \nTony Black is a bassist\, multi-instrumentalist\, composer\, and producer residing in Waynesville\, North Carolina. He was most recently on tour as a member of The Marshall Tucker Band. Tony started playing bass while in junior high school\, when several friends got together to form a punk rock band. He later joined up with Southern California hardcore punk heroes\, Stalag 13 and Dr. Know\, for regional and national touring. After experimenting with several post punk groups\, Tony found himself in San Francisco\, playing bass for avant-garde shred guitarist Buckethead and his band\, who toured under the wing of several well-known bands such as Primus\, Mr. Bungle\, and System of a Down. \nIn order to gain the skills necessary for session work\, to become a better sight reader\, and explore different styles of music\, Tony enrolled in The Los Angeles College of Music. It was during this time in Southern California when Tony was able to perform alongside legendary jazz artists Flora Purim and Airto Moriera. \nTony has been blessed to play with creative musicians of all styles\, direct a youth rock band program\, teach private bass instruction\, and perform with legendary southern rock and soul artists such as the incredible Jimmy Hall (Wet Willie)\, Chris Hicks (Marshall Tucker)\, Robert Nix (Atlanta Rhythm Section)\, Bob Burns\, and Artimus Pyle (Lynyrd Skynyrd). In 2018\, Tony performed 130 concerts with The Marshall Tucker Band\, including supporting Lynyrd Skynyrd on their Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour.

DESCRIPTION:Another Second Saturday in the River Arts District of Asheville! We’ll open at 12 pm as usual\, which is the same time the ArtsAVL free trolley starts running. You can hop on and hop off between downtown and the RAD until 6 pm! \nEnjoy your selection of beverage from a wide range of beer\, cider\, wine\, soda\, kombucha\, and more while browsing our 90+ resident artists’ studios and displays\, seeing demonstrations from artists such as Chrysalis Wing Art (depicted in the cover photo)\, the continuation of our Mandala Madness group showcase\, and more! \nEach one of Nara’s Chrysalis Wing Art pieces involves a series of steps\, starting from ethically and sustainably sourcing the insect specimens\, which come to her with the wings closed\, folded above their bodies. They go through a process of re-hydrating\, pinning\, drying\, posing and framing to become the artwork you see displayed at Foundation Studios. For this edition of Second Saturday\, Nara will be doing a live pinning of a few dozen butterflies and moths. You’ll get to see how fascinating these beauties are and why so many people are obsessed with them! Everyone is welcome to come by\, ask questions and share this passion with Nara. The live pinning starts at 1p.m. until the last insect goes on the board. \nLater in the evening\, enjoy live music by Native Bones Tribal Band\, a local Indigenous Native American group.
