All my life, I’ve loved working with color. My first “artist” memory was having my crayons confiscated in second grade, because I wouldn’t stay inside the lines. Then watercolors painting the beach and then a decade in Asheville working with fibers. And of course the fabric I quilt with.

Now I am making a colorful splash here in Asheville. At this point in my artistic journey, paint is the perfect medium! It intrigues and mesmerizes me to move the colors and textures on a surface. Manipulating the flow, so to speak. And it is always a surprise to see how it flows! I may have one idea in mind, but the paint tends to have a mind of its own.

I find I take my inspiration from all the beauty here in Asheville and the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains. And some of the inspiration comes from what’s growing in our garden, particularly poppies!

“Artist”: It is what I do! But then the way you arrange flowers in a vase, or the plates on a table, or even a carefully crafted letter can be art. I guess we are all artists, each day with everything we do! So I ask: What’s on your canvas?
