Patricia Phillips is a studio goldsmith artist and painter. Emphasis is placed on the interrelationship of shapes, lines, textures and colors. Each piece of studio jewelry is hand wrought in gold and silver, starting from sheet and wire. Color is added by using enamels, gemstones or found objects. The techniques incorporated are pulled from modern to ancient methods designed to please the eye through balance. They are small sculptural art forms which speak of a blend between delicate grace and strength as part self-expression. The studio jewelry is statement based.
The point of departure for the paintings are the works of Hans Hofmann, Joseph Albers and Casper David Friedrich. Taking the lessons learned from these artists, the push-pull of color is used to create a transcendental mood of strength and power that people will gravitate towards.
