Abstract Landscapes- Mixed Media
I am inspired by patterns and compositions found in nature and landscape, particularly of my home, Western North Carolina.
Always searching for these in the world around me, I surround myself with ever changing collected bits of visual information, photos of the landscape, tree bark, leaves and lichen.
By comparing microscopic and macro views and the connections between them, I am seeking to describe the visual relationships between minute details of natural objects and views of distant topographies.
To create my work, I use everything I have ever learned as a working artist for the past 30 years, combining traditional craft and art techniques and materials – paper, fabric, wood, pencils, ink and paint – with contemporary digital image manipulation and reproduction.
I like to think of my pieces as small windows, selected observations of the beautiful world we live in.
In this latest body of work, I have been using watercolor and water-soluble materials, combined with graphite, ink and acrylic paints and mediums.
