The River Arts District has been named Best Arts District in the U.S. as part of the USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.
Selected through a nationwide public vote, the award recognizes districts that offer exceptional artistic experiences, vibrant studio communities, and meaningful cultural impact.
Home to hundreds of working artists, the River Arts District is one of Asheville’s most dynamic creative hubs, where visitors can meet artists, see work in progress, and take home original art created right here in Western North Carolina.
Following a challenging year of recovery after Hurricane Helene, this recognition reflects not only the strength of the arts community, but the power of public support.
Thank you to everyone who voted and continues to champion Asheville’s creative spirit.
Come celebrate with us! The best arts district in the country is right here in the RAD!
Below is a message from River Arts District Artists President Jeffrey Burroughs.
“This recognition belongs to the artists of the River Arts District and to our community that refused to let disaster define it. After Hurricane Helene, our studios were flooded, our tools were lost, and our livelihoods were shaken. What followed was not retreat, but resolve. Artists showed up for one another. Neighbors showed up. Volunteers, collectors, and supporters showed up
“This number one ranking is not just about art. It is about resilience, collaboration, and the belief that creative communities matter. The River Arts District is more than a destination. It is a working ecosystem of makers, small businesses, and cultural leaders who have rebuilt together, and who continue to invest in each other’s success.
“We are deeply grateful, and we see this moment not as a finish line, but as momentum for what comes next.”
