Color Mixing in Oils Workshop

In this workshop, we will explore value strings, a method developed and taught by American artist Frank Vincent DuMond. Students will create gradual, stepped mixtures of individual colors, such as blue, green, and violet, ranging from light to dark.

We will also examine the prismatic palette, which uses premixed strings of prismatic colors arranged in carefully controlled value steps. This organized approach helps artists mix colors more efficiently and accurately capture light, shadow, depth, and atmospheric perspective in an oil painting.
