Manna Resilience Award Presentation And Party

  • This event has passed.

September 18, 2025 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

In response to the devastation of Helene, more than two dozen of the region’s finest writers and artists turned to their craft to help our neighbors heal. They published works in a book called Stronger than the Storm: Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina. In their poetry, artwork, and essays they’ve distilled emotions and events that are far too big to convey in photos or videos.

Now, the public is invited to a Resilience Award event, where the book’s creators honor their pledge to contribute 100% of the book profits to the MANNA local recovery effort. While there are many worthy organizations, the writers and artists selected MANNA FoodBank, whose own building on Swannanoa River Road was destroyed by Helene, to receive the funds . Dedicated MANNA employees and volunteers jumped into action quickly so they could continue to ensure our neighbors wouldn’t go hungry, especially in this time of great need. The books profits are expected to be enough for MANNA to supply 20,000 meals.

The event will be held at Jaime Byrd Contemporary Art Gallery in the River Arts District who also suffered catastrophic flooding and destruction from the storm, yet has now since been rebuilt. This beautiful open 2000 square foot gallery is inviting all to celebrate the work MANNA FoodBank does done for our community. This will also be a perfect opportunity to meet some of the artists, writers, and editors of the book, all of whom were impacted by the storm.

There will be light snacks and drinks. The book and some artwork associated with the project will also be available for purchase.
