Pink Dog Mardi Gras: Lovers, Sinners, and Misfits exhibition

February 17, 2026 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

The artists of Pink Dog Creative explore the cultural fusion of Mardi Gras in the upcoming group
exhibition Pink Dog Mardi Gras: Lovers, Sinners, and Misfits.
Twenty-five artists present works encompassing a multi-faceted interpretation of the holiday: the duality of
indulgence and restraint, the vibrant visuals of beads, sequins and feathers, the symbolic colors of purple,
green and gold: “justice, faith and power,” the European influence of masquerade, and the exuberance of
New Orleans’ renowned parades, elaborate parties and unique Cajun and African American traditions.
Mardi Gras, literally “Fat Tuesday,” traditionally marks the entrance into a period of spiritual penitence.
However, the celebration now extends far beyond its religious origins as a display of deep cultural and
regional identity, and a festive celebration to let loose and mark the changing of the season.
Each artist was invited to explore this lively theme in their own way and individual medium. Participating
artists are Patricia Anastasi, Tim Barnwell, Spencer Beals, Karen Keil Brown, Christie Calaycay, Lucy
Cobos, Heather Divoky, Mark Harmon, Liz Hozier, Andrew Mastriani, Sandy McAslan, Gael Perry Pearson, Joseph Pearson,
Jeremy Phillips, Patricia Phillips, Tricia Reeks, Erica Schaffel, Pippin Schupbach, Viola Spells, Sarah St
Laurent, Aaron Tucker, Larry Turner, Christine VanCott, Cindy Walton, Emelie Weber Wade, Andrea Kulish Wilhelm,
XCVI and Noel Yovovich.
