$145Collage is my way of journaling and it’s the foundation of most of my work. It’s also the perfect tool for remembering, processing, or sharing your journey – internal or external! Join me in exploring collage as a fine art medium, a path of self-expression, and your own personal travelogue!
In this one-day class, we’ll explore using collage to create a visual journal of your travels – either while you’re on the road, or after your return. We’ll cover all the basics – packing and organizing art tools for travel (including TSA guidelines), sourcing materials on the road, adhesives, types of journals, and even incorporating text and drawings into our collages.
We’ll start the day with a series of creative warm-ups and then move into doing several smaller, travel journal types of collage. We will finish by creating a 12”x12” collage on heavy paper. Bridget will provide students with all the tools that are needed such as glue, scissors, and substrates, as well as collage packs for warm-ups. She’ll also include and some papers for backgrounds and fodder with an Asheville/Western North Carolina theme.
Students are strongly encouraged to bring papers, images, mementos, and ephemera from their own travels, including fibers and small dimensional objects. These might be from more literal vacations or road trips, or they might relate to journeys through formative times and experiences (think childhood, child-rearing, friendships, education, concerts, museum visits, etc.) Even the journey of your dreams can be rich fodder! If items have strong sentimental value, students may wish to bring photocopies rather than originals.
This class is adult-oriented and participants must be 18+
