History:

On the Second Saturday of each month, the River Arts District Artists typically holds a gallery walk & open studios event with demonstrations, workshops, live music, wine tastings, delicious food, and more. The public is invited to meander the mile-long district or hop on and off the free trolley and discover all that the “RAD” has to offer. There are more than 240 artists in the 23 buildings throughout the district. They come together each month to provide art experiences displaying their work and sharing their techniques and inspirations.

While our buildings are closed to the public at the moment, most artists are creating work in their homes or studios, and many are updating their personal or RADA webpages frequently with new work, sharing on social media, and participating in the #artistsupportpledge (search #artistsupportpledgerad). Some of the artists are creating online content specifically for this homebound time, which they would love to share with you – please explore the listing below.

We also invite you to peruse our website, riverartsdistrict.com, and have a virtual visit, which is a great jumping off point to explore Asheville’s art community, whether for educational purposes, entertainment, or if you’re looking for a great piece of art for your home or business.

Vessels of Hope

Watch Sarah Wells Rolland as she continues making Vessels of Hope, each unique and each made on the potters wheel.
*The project began on April 1st
*The Goal: 500 vessels
On Saturday at noon she should be crossing into 300 made, 280 sold. Sarah will demonstrate on the wheel and show finished pieces as well. How can you make 500 different vessels using the same amount of clay and all the designing done on the potters wheel? Join her and see! Sarah loves to share her message of creativity, resilience and hope!
