The gallery owner states, “I find myself wondering what the stories are behind the beautifully made ceramic imagery of Jenny Mendes and Reiko Miyagi. So many ceramicists I know use glaze as a secondary element to their forms, be it for utilitarian reasons or simply to add color and some design. Definitely not for Jenny and Reiko. The pictures they create are doubtlessly the main thing, and I’m so glad they are. There’s a whimsical, delicate, even sweet, relatable quality to all their pieces; animals observing and acting as an audience while people play musical instruments or sit and daydream; vegetation curling and surrounding hopping rabbits and/or sitting foxes… It’s your favorite childhood picture books on plates and cups and wall tiles. How could any ceramic lover not just stare at these ‘Secret Garden-like’ gems and wish they could jump into the scenes themselves? Like a dream come true.”
