Pink Dog Creative artist Reiko Miyagi is featured in the May/June issue of WNC Magazine. Reiko is a Japanese native who moved to the U.S. after working as a studio potter in Mashiko, a major pottery town. Her work consists of her signature sgraffito stoneware and unique techniques of metalsmithing that helped develop her skills in jewelry and collage. Her work is influenced by the Japanese appreciation of subtle beauty and the natural world. Reiko finds her inspiration from her past but also values the “living in the moment” experience her art provides when she is creating. After she finishes an object she thinks of the future of her work. Her influences from the past, present, and future are then collaborated to create a now moment when people use her work. Reiko enjoys working with a variety of media and her hope is that her work will be used to help celebrate the rituals of daily life and to create harmonious surroundings.
