Fearless Oil Painting Workshop: Mixing Magic & Birds with Amanda McLenon

Join RADA artist, Amanda McLenon, for this playful Sunday workshop where you will learn the art of color mixing with oil paints, and walk away with lots of techniques and tips for creating a color palette that sings to you! Following the color-mixing part of the workshop, Amanda will guide you into a simple bird-sketching process (drawing skills/talent not required!) From there, you’ll transfer your simple sketch onto a small canvas with bird photos being used for reference. Remember, this is FEARLESS oil painting! From there, you’ll use a color palette you have chosen from part one, to create a bird painting: either realistic or more more abstract.

This class includes an introduction to color theory, followed by exercises where you will build an understanding of how to create hues you most love and want to work with. You will also be invited to create a color board that serves as your own personal mixing key using the colors in the kit you now own!

Amanda encourages the use of a simple palette that allows you to explore oil paint without confusion and create paintings that are harmonious with each other. She will share her simple formula for matching any color.

The color mixing techniques you will learn can be applied to mixing with other paint mediums such as acrylic paints.
