Introduction to Acrylic Painting & Symbols with Heather Hanson

Join us for a nurturing Saturday of community and creativity!

This four-hour class is designed to provide you with an accessible avenue in developing confidence and trust in your creativity as you experiment and explore with acrylic paints on the canvas.

In this beginner course, Heather will guide you in developing a simple four-step painting practice, while exploring methods for using acrylic paint in layering techniques on canvas. You may bring a symbol that is meaningful to you or select one of seven Celtic symbols we will have available in the studio, to use as the subject of your painting. Symbols are easy figurative shapes which will support us in cultivating our intentions, and provide us with an accessible starting point as we learn how to work with the paint on canvas.

You will also learn basic color mixing, concentrating on complementary limited palettes. In addition, you will be introduced to the fundamentals of layering, and the most effective techniques when layering acrylic paints with mixed media such as water soluble pencils, crayons and gelatos.

You will leave with your own painting on canvas, and the steps to a practice you can come back to again and again!

We will take a brief break and serve a light snack mid-way through the class. Feel free to bring a lunch if you like (you may store it in our fridge).
