Pet Portraits in Collage with Li Newton

Goals:
-Have fun.
-Learn basic analog (cut by hand) paper collage techniques.
-Learn how to transfer a photo onto a surface.
-Basic cutting and gluing, building layers to create depth.
-Complete a finished portrait of your favorite fur or feathered friend.

Materials:
-Practice boards and panels will be provided.
-I will also provide a wide selection of papers and gel medium, some scissors, paper towels.

You will bring:
-Several good 8” X 10” head to shoulder photo’s of your pet, 2 copies of each picture.
-Complete photo if other than dog, cat, pig or bunny. (Birds, snakes, etc.)
-Small, sharp scissors for delicate cuts. Exacto if you like.
-Pencil.
-Vinyl gloves if you want to keep your fingers clean.
-Bring extra colorful papers, magazines, etc that have a variety of colors and textures.
-Don’t forget to bring lunch and beverage.

This can be a serious portrait or something whimsical and silly. If you think you “can’t draw”, I’ll teach you a way to “cheat” to get the image down.

Everyone can do this! Don’t be intimidated. It’s all about learning, experimenting, and having fun together.
