Trackside Studios Opening Reception: Introductions Please

  • This event has passed.

March 9, 2024 @ 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Introductions. They mark a new beginning and launch first impressions. They can open doors and widen circles. They may announce themselves quietly or be accompanied by fanfare. Introductions hold the promise of bold, possibly radical revolution. They might challenge or confound us. They almost always change us.

The River Arts District Artists theme for March invites artists to explore INTRODUCTIONS PLEASE. Trackside Studios artists will interpret this theme with an exhibit opening in the new Inner Stairway Gallery on March 9th (Second Saturday) with a meet the artists reception from 2 – 6 pm. Featured artists include:

Pat Abrams: Pat’s journey as an artist was born of her desire to expand her vocabulary for creative expression. She draws on the landscape of her interior life and embraces the abstract nature of human experience. In her painting On Her Way, Pat has mined the magnetic fields of grief, worry and turbulence that had once compromised her emotional compass. Feeling untethered, she used art to map her way through loss and was introduced to her artist self along the way.

Mike Floyd: Mike has always been a baseball fan and memorabilia collector and believes it was inevitable that someday he would use his artistic abilities to create baseball art. He begins by introducing himself to the player by researching career accomplishments (awards, championships, stats., uniform number, team logos, colors etc.) and then designing each side to include as much as possible. Every baseball is transformed from an empty white orb into a colorful, biographical work of art.

Nancy Moore: In Nancy’s work, we are introduced to the Divine Story Tellers. Her intuitive paintings are responses to the light and energy she senses in the human spirit. Using pastels, watercolors, inks, graphite & colored pencils and charcoal, she develops playful images filled with bold strokes of brilliant color. These visual narratives are at once abstract & primitive, and meaningful & nuanced. When Nancy dances with her creative muse, which often occurs in natural environments, what emerges are spiritual landscapes that reflect humanity’s inner voice and universal communities.
